Zeolites are aluminosilicate compounds commonly known as molecular sieves. They can be naturally occurring or industrially synthesized. Their unique cage-like framework structure exhibited in this class of materials leads to a broad scope of uses. Zeolites are used as industrial or medical absorbents, water treatment softeners and filters, detergents, removal of nuclear waste, concrete production, and industrial catalysis.
In industrial heterogeneous acid catalysis, zeolites are crucial for the trapping molecules and promoting chemical reactions. Their cage-like structure, large surface area, high adsorption capacity, uniform and intricate channels, high thermal stability, and well- defined micropores all contribute to excellent selectivity and catalytic performance.
